Good for Meghan. Good for Whoopi. And Laura Ingraham can kiss my rather wide conservative ass, too.

I don’t know the Republican party anymore. It’s a scary, hateful place full of nasty people who don’t like change or a difference of opinion.

The conservative blogosphere doesn’t speak for all Republicans. I think I would go batty if I thought the bigotry and misogyny in the comments section at Hot Air and other popular conservative blogs was representative of prevailing Republican opinion.

At the same time, many Republicans are open to well reasoned arguments that deviate from conservative orthodoxy. Last week I wrote at length about the conservative blogosphere’s treatment of Meghan McCain, and most of the feedback I received was neutral or positive.

I understand fully now that the GOP don’t want people like me tainting their politics and giving the party a bad name.

Don’t let anyone tell you that lockstep conservatism is a prerequisite for entry to the Repbublican tent. It’s your party as long as you believe in the basic principles of Republicanism, like small government, equal rights, free enterprise, and fiscal and personal responsibility.

When I compare her to Paris Hilton it is because they’re achieved fame the same way – by being the daughter of someone famous. She has no real insight. She’s an average writer. She hasn’t done anything even remotely notable. There are plenty of bloggers – you among them – whose voices could be elevated but aren’t because she is taking their wind. She’s not there because she’s earned it or because she’s particularly good at what she does. That’s the biggest reason I’m down on her (and I hope I made that very clear in my blog post)
