We Rocked Starbucks…

Oh yes we did. Here’s how my lovely afternoon went down:

So Kelley called me on my cell around 3:30 this afternoon to let me know that she was about 30 miles from Savannah. We chatted for a few minutes and discovered that we share the same location of conception. Imagine that! It seems that we were both conceived in Bluefield, West-by-Gosh-Virginia. Small world eh? So we hung up and I headed out the door, husd and son in tow. After being held up in road work for 10 minutes, we finally made it to the Oglethorpe Mall. Jason decided to take Matt to the toy stores, to give me some alone time with Rob and Kelley. So I walked around Barnes and Noble trying to spot Kelley. Thinking I missed her, I called her cell. I’m obviously blind, because she was right there in front of me. So I walk up the steps to Starbucks and Kelley jumps up from the chair, smiles and says hi, and gives me a big hug. First of all, let me say that I absolutely LOVE her! She’s exactly how I imagined that she would be. She’s lovely, chipper, energetic, incredibly funny, and intelligent. The conversation flowed from one topic to the other with such ease. We discussed parenthood to politics and everything in between. We talked about her trip to Hawaii. We talked about the state of blogdom. We talked about…everything. And I loved every single second of it.

I think she was a little surprised to discover that I’m a little different in person than I am on my blog. Here I’m this raging, Republican, beeyatch. In real life, I tend to be quiet and shy. It didn’t take long though for me to loosen up, and before she knew it the cuss words were flying out of my mouth.

She got to meet the hubby and the child as well. Matthew was in rare form tonight, much to my chagrin. He could’ve been worse I suppose. Jason was his usual, uptight self. He told me in the car that he thought Kelley was such a nice person. And guess what? She is! I felt so comfortable sitting at that table with Kelley. I felt like I had known her my entire life. She made me feel so comfortable. We laughed and sipped coffee, and learned more about each other. I’m proud to say that I’ve made a new friend today. If any of you bloggers ever get the chance to make it to one of the Georgia Blog Meet-Ups, I hope you meet Kelley. She’s truly an awesome person. I hope that the next time we meet up, we’ll have more time to chat.

I know you’re sitting there asking yourself “Where was Rob?” Unfortunantely, Rob wasn’t able to make it. We were so bummed about it too. I was really looking forward to meeting the Ole Cracker in person. Maybe next time. :)

Kelley, thanks for the wonderful afternoon. It was truly a pleasure meeting you and I really enjoyed myself. Next time you come down, we’re getting that pedicure and manicure!

  1. Ahh Gennie, I told you you would have a blast!! You were so exstatic on the phone afterwards!

Either you need to come see me in Oregon or I need to go see you in Georgia! How fun would that be?!

  2. Isn’t it great to be able to put faces to names? Gald you had a blast. Too bad you missed Rob. He is one person I would LOVE to meet. An original, through and throough.
