Savannah is De-DeGeneres’d…

I just finished an article about an Effingham elementary student who’s going to be featured on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” with his Invention Convention project. I’m tying everything together, making sure I didn’t leave anything out, when it hits me that I never mentioned what station/time everyone could see the episode. So I call WJCL, which is our ABC affiliate, and they tell me that they no longer air the show. Ouch, that’s really going to suck, especially when you’ve got family and friends calling to find out why they can’t find the show.

Their only hope is that someone will tape it and stick it on YouTube. Can I ask one of you fine folks to do that? The episode will air on May 7th and the segment we need is of the three students who took part in the Invention Convention. The student’s name is Fox Burnsed, who btw is the CUTEST kid I’ve ever met. He’s such a clever little boy and super smart. I know his family and schoolmates would really appreciate someone throwing that on YouTube for them. I personally think it’s a shame that our local station doesn’t air it, especially since it’s such a popular daytime show. What’s up with that?????

Is there some sort of online petition to bring the show back into the Savannah market? I’m never home to watch it, but I do catch the segments online and I LOVE it. Hell, I’d start taping it if they’d bring it back.

*starts to chant* We want Ellen! We want Ellen!

  1. Gennie,

They replay The Ellen DeGeneres Show weekdays at 2AM on Oxygen.

I assume you have Comcast so I don’t know if they’ve given you the channel as of yet. It was launched in 2000 by Oprah and former Nickelodeon President Geraldine Laybourne. It *is* available on DIRECTV and Dish Network. I have DIRECTV but am unable to upload anything to YouTube :( I hope you can work something out with someone so that you can tape the show, Gennie.

    I’m a BIG WSAV fan.

I’ve never liked WJCL or FOX 28 for news…they’re both owned by the same company, Bluenose Broadcasting, and all of their newscasts look like the morning news and announcements at a middle school (i.e. *ZERO* production value). I think we now know why…

On December 6, 2006, former Vice President and General Manager of WJCL, Mitchell Maund, was indicted on charges that he used corporate credit cards to bilk WJCL out of more than $200,000 over four years. Maund held the aforementioned position at WJCL from August 2000 to April 2006.

Maybe that’s why they couldn’t afford to air The Ellen DeGeneres Show?

You are right, though – it’s crazy that it doesn’t air here locally.

Good luck and keep us updated on your tape quest! :)

  2. Gennie, I just discovered your blog – through a google search about local news. Hey, I just want to say you are a good writer. Pithy, funny, with bits of wisdom thrown in. Have you written any books? Just wondering. Best toyou, and keep up the blog, Marsha Marks – who moved to Effingham County 6 years ago, from the West Coast and is just now recoving from culture shock.

  3. LOL..it is quite a shock, isn’t it? :)

Thanks so much for your kind words. You’ve got me blushing. *smile* I think if I really applied myself here on the blog, I could become a great blogger, but I have to tell you, I write for a newspaper in real life, so everything here on my blog is very laid-back. At times, even incoherent. I get lazy and go a week without blogging, then jump right back in with a profanity-laced rant and all is well again. I enjoy blogging. I like the feedback I get from my readers. And it makes me feel good to receive comments like yours.

I’m glad you found the blog and I hope you’ll stick around. You may occasionally read something you don’t agree with, and that’s alright, but I do hope you’ll keep reading.

And a belated welcome to Effingham! It’s a great county, as you now know, with a fantastic school system, and lots of open space. Well…at least for now. I swear, if I see another subdivision pop up, I may just scream. It’s a good place to live though. :)

  4. I’m with you – it’s INSANE they don’t air Ellen here, I had tried to find it the first month we moved and I can’t believe it. It’s the most popular daytime show next to Oprah, why wouldn’t they show it? Money? Ridiculous.
