Music Post: It’s All About Twilight…

In t-minus 30 seconds, “Twilight” is opening in theaters all over this good land and I won’t be in any one of them to experience it. It goes without saying…I am heartbroken. I’ve been looking forward to this day for a while now and I’m a little bummed that millions of snotty-nosed teenage girls are about to file into their theater seats, while I’m stuck at home simply blogging about it and living vicariously through them. *deep sigh* Such is life, I suppose.

I’m 30 years old, my husband works nights, and I have a 10 year old that has school tomorrow. It’s not like I’m going to drag him to the theater. And no amount of begging on my part could make my husband call in tonight. So I guess this means that I’ll have to get up early enough to catch it in the morning.

I suppose that works out fine though, because I can’t think of anything more horrific than a theater full of screaming teenage girls who spazz out every time Rob Pattinson flashes a crooked smile. I wouldn’t be able to hear the damned thing and that would just piss me off. So yes, going to see the movie all by myself sounds like a plan. Just me, my overpriced popcorn, and Edward Cullen…er…Rob Pattinson…I mean Edward Cullen. Good lord, but isn’t the man just too handsome for words? Oh yes, that’s just lovely.

Seeing as this is a music post, I wanted to include some songs that remind me of the first two novels in the series – Twilight and New Moon. Twilight is more about falling in love, not wanting to kill your girlfriend, and hating yourself for being a bloodsucker. I had a hard time with that one. The second one deals with broken hearts, loss, obsession, and finding love again. It was a piece of cake. I’m a very moody sort of girl, so heartbreak and pain are right up my alley. I should warn you now, if you haven’t read the books, there are some definite spoilers below the songs. So be careful when reading the cuts.

As always: Listen…enjoy…download…purchase…wash…rinse…repeat. And go see “Twilight”!!!

Fergie – Clumsy / Purchase CD
This is obviously about Bella, because she’s always tripping over herself and falling – danger magnet and all, especially when Edward comes around and “dazzles” her. What a lucky little bitch.

Kate Nash – Pumpkin Soup / Purchase CD
In Twilight, Edward can’t decide whether he wants to love Bella or straight up murder her. So like any man, he lashes out and ignores her, trying to push her away. And like any girl, Bella is only more infatuated by this behavior and can’t stop thinking about him. This song reminds me of the scene in Twilight where the two are in biology and Edward decides that he doesn’t want to have her lunch after all and he tries to strike up a conversation.

Kelly Clarkson – Can I Have A Kiss / Purchase CD
Bella just wants a kiss, Edward. She also wants to do wonderful, dirty things with your cold, dead body and you will be forever defending your honor and 100 year old virginity against her. Just thought I’d give you a warning. BTW: I totally have a music video in my head for this song. Why? Because I have way too much time on my hands. Kelly Clarkson, give me a ring. It’s awesome.

A Fine Frenzy – Ashes And Wine / Purchase CD
One of my favorite scenes from the series is in New Moon when Bella is standing on the cliffs in La Push, staring down at the raging waters below, and hearing Edward’s voice in her head begging her not to jump. She would do just about anything to hear his voice one more time and to just wash away this pain that she feels from his leaving her. I hear this song every single time I read that part of the book.

Automatic Loveletter – Hush / Purchase CD
In New Moon, Edward starts to distance himself from Bella as he resolves himself to the fact that he’s going to have to leave her for her own safety. He wants her to have a normal, human life without the danger he and his family brings by being with her. Well, he didn’t have to do anything and he certainly didn’t have to leave at all, but he’s so pig-headed that he thought he did. But that’s beside the point. This song is very New Moon, pre-breakup.

Jann Arden – Cherry Popsicle / Purchase CD
After Edward leaves Bella, she’s completely devastated and basically moves through life like a zombie. She doesn’t feel anything and she doesn’t know how to live without him and she realizes that every aspect of her life revolved around his being with her. It’s a very unhealthy sort of obsession that’s completely taken over her life and she honestly believes that when he left, he took every part of her. This is an excellent song for this part of her life. I also think it’s a little funny that the name of the song is “Cherry Popsicle” because Edward is cold because he’s dead and all…and the red in “cherry” represents blood, which vampires crave. So “Cherry Popsicle” is basically what Edward is. He’s a cherry popsicle! *giggles to self them stops* Yeah, so I’m the only one who got that. Whatever. Moving on. BTW: You fan girls better leave my nickname for Edward alone.

Lifehouse – Broken / Purchase CD
My good friend Riika knew I was going to do this post, so she sent me this song. It’s perfect for New Moon when Edward and Bella are apart.

StarSailor-Some of Us / Purchase CD
The first time I heard this song, I immediately thought of Jacob Black. The second time I heard it, I thought of Edward Cullen. And the third time, I decided that the first part of the song was about Jacob and the last was about Edward and the way they both feel about Bella. Honestly, it could go either way. Anyway, over the course of New Moon, Jacob evolves from a close family friend to a love interest for Bella. He’s there for her after Edward leaves and he breathes life into her again. In Jacob, Bella has a very healthy alternative that won’t take her away from her father and won’t result in her becoming a vampire. But poor Jacob doesn’t stand a chance against Edward, who does make his way back into Bella’s life at the end of New Moon. That doesn’t stop him from pushing his advances on Bella and trying to convince her, right up to the very end, that she should choose him. I may be Team Edward, but I can definitely appreciate Jacob and the very healthy relationship he has with Bella. He’s the big mug of hot chocolate and marshmallows of the series. He’s warm and sweet in every way and he makes Bella feel good about herself. And he’s good for the soul…even if he is a pushy pest at times.
