Charlotte’s Been Painted Blue & Gold…

My beloved WVU Mountaineers won the Meineke Bowl today against the Tar Heels 31-30. WVU’s Pat White was named MVP and he finished out what can only be described as an EPIC college career. Awesome game. We really tore those Heels up in the 4th quarter and showed them how Mountaineers play football! Hoo-ah!

Pat White’s going to go down as one the best players…if not the best… in Mountaineer and college football history.

To me, Mountaineer football will always be Don Nehlen and Major Harris. Those will always be the golden days, especially during the late 80′s. I remember growing up watching being the biggest Nehlen fan. And when Harris came along, I thought he was a pigskin god. The man was like a ballerina out there on the field. It was incredible just to watch him.

I dug up this video on YouTube from the ’88 game with Penn State where Harris DESTROYED Penn. This literally brings tears to my eyes.

I live so far away from West Virginia now that I have to keep up with my games online. I really miss being able to sit down on the weekends and watch the game or listen to it on the radio. There are few things I get excited about, but seeing my Mountaineers win a bowl game is definitely one. I jump up and down, screaming at the television, and hurling insults at the other team in a voice my husband has described as “shrill and a little scary”. He wouldn’t understand, seeing as he hates football. I’m the lone football fan in this house, which makes for some very sad seasons.

And even though I’m down here in Bulldog country, I’m proud to say…

Once a Moutaineer, always a Mountaineer. I bleed Blue & Gold!
