IT WAS meant to be a harmonious union of Scotland’s most successful rock d and best-selling author, but it has ended amid a flurry of flying fists and speculation.

The members of Mercury Prize-winning Franz Ferdinand were all set to appear in, and write music for, the latest movie based on JK Rowling’s Harry Potter novels.

But Scotland on Sunday can reveal that the d have pulled out of the project, citing “scheduling difficulties”.

The decision has raised eyebrows in the music world, with insiders wondering whether a fight between d members on a recent tour could have anything to do with the decision.

Singer Alex Kapranos appeared keen to be involved with the movie and industry observers are asking if that caused tension with the rest of the d, who were unconvinced Harry Potter was right for their image.

The theory has been dismissed as “nonsense” by the d’s spokesman, although the reports of a fight while on tour in France have not been denied.
